5 Fashion trends origin:

In the evolution of fashion few trends have originated, evolved, and vanished but very few have stayed strong till date. Let’s look back at the origin of 5 of those.

Origin of jeans:

Do you know jeans were first created as working clothes???

Jeans are pants made from denim or dungaree cloth. They were invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873. Jeans are named after the city of Genoa in Italy, a place where cotton corduroy, called either jean or jeane, was manufactured.

Levi Strauss ran a family dry goods business. There he sold cotton cloth among other things. One of his customers was Jacob W. Davis, a tailor from Reno, Nevada. Jacob Davis made a pair of sturdy pants that could withstand hard work as per a customer order. He made them from denim that he bought from Levi Strauss & Co and made them stronger by placing copper rivets at the place’s pants rip the most: pockets and flies.

When he wanted to patent them, he wrote to Levi Strauss, and they became partners. They opened a bigger factory, and that is how jeans were born.

Origin of Denim:

The name “denim” comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called “Serge de Nîmes”, initially made in Nîmes, France, hence “de Nîmes” - “denim”. Weavers of Nîmes tried to reproduce the cotton corduroy that was famously made in the city of Genoa, in Italy, but with no luck. With trial and error, they developed another twill fabric that became known as denim. That was cotton twill textile, in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. Warp threads were dyed in indigo while weft threads remained white that gave denim blue color on the one side and white on the other. Denim is highly durable that is why it was used by Levi Strauss and Jacob W. Davis for material for jeans pants.

Origin of crop tops:

Crop tops did not materialize in the West for many decades before the Eastern countries like India had choli and blouses for sarees. Eventually, a style known as the bedlah was Designed by Egyptian cabaret owner Badia Masabni, the bedlah was a two-piece costume that, of course, showed off the midriff for the purpose of dancing. In 1893, belly dancers gave a performance at the World’s Fair in Chicago, introducing the West to the bedlah, and the concept of the crop top in general.

Origin of heels:

Do you know the history of heels dates as far back as the 10th century????

The first known pictorial evidence of high heels comes from 10th Century Persia where they were worn by men in combination with stirrups for horse riding. The Persian cavalry wore a kind of boots in heels to ensure their feet stayed in the stirrups.

Furthermore, research indicates that heels kept arrow-shooting riders safely on the horse, who stood up on galloping horses. This trend has translated into the popular 21st-century cowboy boot. Owning horses was expensive and time-consuming, so to wear heels implied the wearer had significant wealth.

Origin of red lipstick:

We all have our favorite red lipstick in our vanity...Mine is forever favorite Mac ruby woo

Many historians consider red lipstick was invented by ancient Sumerians in 3500 BC southern Mesopotamia. Red rocks were crushed into a powder to tint the lips red. Others like to credit the birth of lipstick to the ancient Egyptian elites, where Cleopatra was known to wear lip paint created using crushed insects mixed into a vibrant paste of red waxes.

Interesting right!!! But enough of history lessons though
