Facebook, WhatsApp, and Other Social Media Platforms May Be Suspended by the Punjab Government from June 6 to June 11

A formal request has been made by the Punjab administration to stop the activities of major social media, Facebook, platforms from 6th to 11th Muharram. The Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order met recently, and a major part of the agenda was reviewing security protocols for the upcoming holy period.

The main objectives of this application are to protect public safety and prevent potential communal conflicts by temporarily restricting access to popular social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.

In order to maintain peace and security in this critical period, the officials of the interior department have made this appeal to the Pakistani interior ministry. The action underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining public order throughout Muharram, a time of religious significance and communal devotion.
