FBR has Blocked more than 9,100 SIMs of Non-Filers..Acting on the advice of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), telecom companies have deactivated over 9,100 SIM cards of tax defaulters.

According to FBR spokesperson Bakhtiar Ahmed Khan, data of 30 thousand non-filers has been provided to telecom companies and for additional measures, 5 thousand more profiles will be shared daily.

FBR has identified more than 550,000 people who have not filed tax. As a measure to encourage compliance, the FBR has imposed a 90 percent withholding tax on mobile top-ups for non-filers until they meet their tax obligations.

Initially there was some resistance to deactivation of SIM cards despite requests from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and cellular companies.

These measures are part of efforts to enforce tax compliance and ensure fair tax practices in Pakistan, aimed at improving revenue collection and accountability in the telecom sector.
