Imran Khan Declares his Involvement with the APC in Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

During a media briefing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Friday, the former prime minister said PTI members would attend the meeting only as “observers”. He asserted that the decision to participate was purely for the benefit of Pakistan.

The administration chose to convene the APC to address the concerns raised by the opposition and coalition parties about Operation Azam Isthakum. Building political consensus and ensuring that all parties support the objectives of the operation are the objectives of the conference.

“Operation Azam Isthakum” was approved on June 22 by the apex committee of the National Action Plan, headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and aims to eradicate extremism and terrorism across the country.

By launching this operation, Prime Minister Shehbaz approved the reactivation of the National Anti-Terrorism Campaign, a sign of national commitment with the agreement of all stakeholders including the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The administration has decided to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to address the concerns of political parties regarding Operation Azam Isthakum, it was announced yesterday.

According to inside sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz wants to win everyone’s trust during this conference.

The date and time of APC will be announced after the return of the Prime Minister. It looks like it could be by next week.

Opposition parties, including the PTI, have expressed serious reservations about Operation Azam Isthakim, seeking clarification on its parameters and assurances that all stakeholders will be treated with respect.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has also expressed its opposition to the operation.

Although the government’s allies agree that Operation Azam Taswat is necessary and should be launched immediately, People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recently said that the federal government still needs to work with all parties.
