On the occasion of Ashura, the federal government has declared a public holiday on July 16 and 17, 2024. Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces will be deployed across the country during this period to provide security. The details of troop deployment will be consulted with the concerned authorities.
Provincial governments have proposed a one-week ban on social media to curb the spread of hate speech, but no decision has been taken yet. The Ministry of Home Affairs will consult with the provinces before taking any decision regarding internet services.
Advance measures are being taken to maintain law and order during Ashura.
