Jhelum Education Department Ordered Teachers to watch Hollywood and Bollywood Movies during Summer Vacations.

On Saturday, education authorities in Punjab’s Jhelum district issued instructions to teachers to watch certain educational films during summer vacations. The aim of this initiative was to provide teachers with an opportunity to learn and reflect on the various educational themes presented in these films.

CEO Jhelum Education Rana Javed Akhtar said that this instruction was issued by Deputy District Officer for Education Abdul Kareem. The notification specifically asks teachers to watch movies like Taare Zameen Par and Hichki. These films were selected for their educational content and their valuable lessons on understanding and teaching the needs of students.

Taare Zameen Pari is a Bollywood film that focuses on the struggles of a young boy with dyslexia and highlights the importance of recognizing and nurturing the unique talents of every child. Hiccup tells the story of a teacher with Tourette syndrome who turns her weakness into her greatest strength, and inspires her students to overcome their challenges.

However, soon after the notification was issued, the Deputy Commissioner of Jhelum intervened and ordered its withdrawal. The reasons for the reversal were not detailed, but the directive was officially rescinded, and teachers were no longer required to follow the initial directive.

This series of events highlights an effort by local education authorities to use summer vacation for professional development through film. Despite the backlash, the initial effort underscores an acknowledgment of the media’s power to educate and inspire teachers, encouraging them to approach their role with new understanding and empathy.
